Taco Salad Challenge

Have you ever tried to order a taco salad, to-go? It is virtually impossible for food operators to get that shell into any sort of packaging that protects it from destruction. That is, it used to be virtually impossible to do so until one of our customers threw us the challenge. What resulted from that challenge is our 93888 high dome lid. What is unique about this lid is the steep side walls. It enabled our customer to place their… Read the full article »

Genpak on TV

Nobody ever claimed that working for a food packaging company was a glamorous detail. Generally speaking, most consumers really don’t know who makes the food packaging that carries their favorite to-go meal, dip, almonds or cup cake. But, after you work in the food packaging market for some time you start to spot packaging whenever you see it used in commercials. Especially if it is a package made by the company you work for. Consumers Get A Victory!

Initially I was going to entitle this blog entry as Foam Food Packaging Gets A Victory, but the more I thought about it, the real winner here is the consumer. In New York City, the appeals court upheld the New York State Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned NYC Mayor de Blasio’s ban on foam food service packaging. You can read about that here, but in a nutshell the Restaurant Action Alliance and the coalition of… Read the full article »

Being a company that produces products from foamed polystyrene, which is sometimes mistakenly referred to as Styrofoam, we often get asked about recycling. There is a common misconception that foam polystyrene products can’t be recycled. Foam polystyrene can and is being recycled. Please keep in mind, just because your local municipality may not accept products that carry the  recycle symbol does not mean it is not recyclable. New Compostable Food Packaging

One of the things that sets Genpak apart from other food packaging manufacturers is that we ask out customers questions then actually take action upon those suggestions. For example, one of our recent surveys asked which product offering they would like to see us expand in. Clearly, the overwhelming choice was for more environmentally friendly food packaging. We heard that loud and clear and have recently launch three new Harvest Fiber products! HF211 – compostable hinged… Read the full article »

Microwave Safe Food Packaging

The microwave oven has become a necessity in every kitchen. Try to go more than three days without microwaving something. Whether you are warming or actually cooking food items, the microwave is here to stay. When it comes to food packaging for the microwave, not all items are created equal and not all items are safe for the microwave. Foods can reach temperatures up to 210° F. Typically,  polypropylene is the material of choice for this type of application…. Read the full article »

Temperature Control Take Out Containers

I don’t know about you, but if there’s one thing that ruins my half rack of ribs lunch meal, it is warm coleslaw. Not sure where or when it happened, but I absolutely love coleslaw. It hits the spot when scarfing down those ribs. However the slaw always ends up lukewarm or worse yet, it’s migrated into the ribs making them more messy than ribs already are. Same deal with the baked beans. The food packaging my… Read the full article »
